Hopkins 40950 Trailer Plug Gasket

This was a project whereby we scanned a Hopkins 40950 trailer plug assembly in order to get the exact shape and dimensions from the back face of the housing. It was scanned with the AutoScan Inspec 3D scanner. Only this face was was collected and converted to a 3D model in .stl format. From there, we reduced the number of polygons since a high resolution 3D model was not necessary. Then we imported the model into SolidWorks where we could create a drawing by simply tracing the model and adding dimensions to create a final drawing that matches the housing exactly. The drawing was extruded and saved to its own .stl file for 3D printing. After printing the solid object in TPU using our dual head FDM 3D printer. The result was a perfectly formed rubber gasket with which to mount the housing to the bumper of a heavy duty truck. The client was extremely happy with the results. This is what we do. We make things work for our clients. Contact us today to discuss your needs.
